Croatian cheese

There are thousands of types of cheese. They are different in texture, taste or color. You can eat cheese for breakfast, lunch and dinner. It can make almost anything delicious. It is often served with fruits, olives, honey or nuts. There is no exact information regarding the origin of cheese, archaeological studies have shown the origin of cheese dates as far back as 6000 BC.


Paški sir or Cheese from the island of Pag, is widely considered to be the best cheese in Croatia. Hard in texture, sheep’s milk cheese is flavored thanks to the island’s history of salt production. Wind spread salt on everything including vegetation that the sheep feed. That’s why the only true Pag cheese can come from sheep raised on the island.

No matter if you decide for the younger or for the matured version of cheese, they will both pair incredibly well with wine Plavac, Cabernet Sauvignon or Merlot. There is nothing better than spending time with glass of wine, snacking cheese and listening music in background.
