5 useful tips for culinary enthusiasts

The executive chef of one of the coziest Dubrovnik Restaurants Marco Polo advises our blog readers on 5 useful tips when cooking at home.

USE FRESH AND ORGANIC INGREDIENTS

Although fresh ingredients come at higher prices than their frozen or processed counterparts at least in Dubrovnik and Croatia, they are the key to all savory, flavorful dishes. When cooking, try to avoid concentrates. And yes – try not to regret the extra dollars spent, they’re well worth it.

MARINATED ALWAYS TASTES BETTER

Marinating is playful, you can be creative and surprise yourself with flavors. Marinades infuse the food with more juice, aromas and flavors of the spices you used. However, keep in mind that the old rule „longer is better“ doesn’t always apply. The time necessary for marinating different meats depends on the type of meat, its cut and the spices added to the marinade.

DON’T OVERCOOK OR OVERBAKE

There’s not much philosophy here. Stay focused and keep your eyes on the dish you are preparing. Overcooking or overbaking ruins the nutritional value of food, and in all honesty – not many enjoy overcooked mangold or dried chicken.

EXPERIMENT

Cooking is supposed to be fun and pleasant, so allow your imagination to take the lead. Get inspiration from foreign cuisines, introduce new spices or combine new flavors. It’s an exciting journey bound to motivate you to cook even more.

DON’T DRINK ALL YOUR COOKING WINE

Wine definitely enriches every dish! The only problem (or perhaps not J is if you drink all the wine you planned to use for cooking.
